The informative bit; English wine has been going from strength to strength over the past few years, in particular that of the sparkling variety. Bluebell Vineyard Estates are producing wine that is keeping up in quality and taste with some of the bigger and more expensive names, for significantly smaller price tags. This particular wine is highly regarded by many English Wine experts (see article ‘The great big English fizz-off‘) and is made from the red Champagne grapes Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Not only was I won over by the wines themselves, this one has had a large part to play in changing my mind about pink fizz, but the team running Bluebell are also a delight to work with.
Tasting notes; Strawberries and cream, smooth and crisp.
Drinking hints and tips: If you can resist drinking this wine immediately, it will keep for a couple of years yet in the right conditions (in a cool, dark, undisturbed place, on its side). Enjoy without food, or with anything pink to match; smoked or baked salmon, scallops or prawns.
