The informative bit; English wine has been going from strength to strength over the past few years, in particular that of the sparkling variety. Bluebell Vineyard Estates are producing wine that is keeping up in quality and taste with some of the bigger and more expensive names, for significantly smaller price tags. This particular wine is made from the Seyval Blanc grape, a variety that thrives in the English climate, producing fresh and punchy wines that stand up to spicy food. Not only was I won over by the wines themselves, but the team running Bluebell are also a delight to work with.
Tasting notes; Sparkling, zesty, crisp and refreshing with some peachiness and toast. Dry but has a similar sweetness reminiscent of the Prosecco style.
Drinking hints and tips: If you can resist drinking this wine immediately, it will keep for a couple of years yet in the right conditions (in a cool, dark, undisturbed place, on its side). Serve chilled as a party aperitif with goat’s cheese canapes or on its own!
