fabfizz

Fabulous Affordable Fizz under £11 Fancy a drop of festive fizz but don’t want to blow the bank balance, I’ve chosen these tried and tested affordable sparklers especially for you!

Anna de Codorniu Blanc de Noirs £11 (£10.45)
Old favourite with PFW-ers (and me!!), this is a Champagne inspired gem from Spain’s Cava country. Made using Champagne grape Pinot Noir in the same traditional method (2nd fermentation in the bottle). Smooth, dry and easy drinking with red apple flavours, a fantastic and much better value alternative to cheap Champagne.

Sentio Prosecco Extra Dry £11.50 (£10.93) SOLD OUT
Folk are loving this Extra Dry Prosecco with its hint of floral honeysuckle, grapefruit and crisp green apple, a touch sweeter than Cava or Champagne, us Brits are embracing this as our favourite fizz as a quaffable and affordable sparkler.

bbeeEnglish Sparkling Wine Stay British this Christmas with the superb and award winning sparkling wines from East Sussex producer Bluebell Vineyard Estates. Having just celebrated their 10th anniversary, these wines are made carefully onsite with grapes only from their own vineyards harvested in a single vintage. Made in the same traditional method as Champagne from the same grape varieties – so the quality, finesse and class of Champagne, but from our own fair soils.

Bluebell Vineyard Estates Blancs de Blancs 2010 £24 (£22.80) East Sussex, England.
Award winning white sparkling made entirely with Chardonnay. Very popular at the recent October tasting. Think peach, lemon, honey and brioche. Fantastic alongside canapes, English cheeses, pannettone or New Year celebrations.

Bluebell Vineyard Estates Brut Rosé 2010/11 £25 (£23.75) E Sussex, England.
A stunning Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier blend, a favourite with PFW customers. Dry & complex starting peachy, then scrumptious strawberries & cream to follow. Fabulous with smoked salmon.

growersGrower’s Champagne Choose a Champagne from one of the smaller producers this Christmas. Grower’s Champagne is otherwise know as Single Vineyard, which most bigger brands simply can’t scale.

Dissaux-Brochot Champagne NV £25 (£23.75)

From the Champenoise village of Binson Orquigny in the Marne Valley, just 10km or so north west of Epernay. This ‘Grower’s’ Champagne is made from the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes of the vineyards of Dissaux-Brochot. A 50/50 blend resulting in this dry, complex, smooth & soft Champers with toasted almonds, citrus & the finest of fizz. Celebrate in style or pair the opulent with the ordinary and enjoy with fish and chips (in the wrapper of course!!).

PORT AND PUDDING (light to heavy)
What better time of year to have a wine for every course. Choose from the following variations of sweet wines – all totally different, starting with the lightest.

port1

Cabidos Petit Manseng £12 (£11.40) (50cl) SW France.
This unusual 100% Petit Manseng is a great place to start for those uninitiated with sweet wines. Not at all cloying but rather fresh, with mango, orange and pineapple flavours, this late harvest golden coloured wine is superb with BLUE cheese in particular and great with cheesecake or trifle, or quite frankly, as pudding on its own.

Dom Brial Rivesaltes Ambre 2009 £13 (£12.35) (75cl) Roussillon, France.
A traditional fortified wine made with Grenache Blanc and Macabeo, allowed to soften and darken in oak. Nutty and fruity with burnt orange flavours and hints of caramel and honey. Great with ginger or chocolate puddings or a dark Chocolate Orange! Great value alternative to Tawny Port!

Vieira de Sousa Late Bottle Vintage 2008 £27 full bottle(£25.65) Douro, Portugal. 1 BOTTLE IN STOCK
A full bodied ruby port traditionally made from grapes harvested in 2008. These ports are still trodden by foot and fermented before fortification in infamous open vats called ‘lagares’. Classic and well made LBV. Plum, dark cherry and chocolate. [IWC 2013 Gold Award] Great with blue or stinky cheeses or for supping in front of the fire.

FINE WINTER REDS
Specially selected for those finer moments in life. Great for presents, to keep that bit longer or as a very special treat, all of these wines are remarkably priced for the quality of wine.

Legaris Reserva 2011 £20 (£19) Ribera del Duero DO, Spain
I recently enjoyed a bottle of the 2007 from my stash and it’s safe to say this wine gets better and better. Made with Tempranillo grapes, this is an excellent value Ribera with loads of body, black fruit, coffee, liquorice, great with roast beef, game or any meaty dish.

Remulluri Reserva 2009 £25 (£23.75) Rioja DOC, Spain.
From one of Rioja’s very best producers, made Organically from Tempranillo grapes, this is a very classy and beautifully balanced wine with spicy red berries and smooth tannin. Perfect with lamb or save for Christmas lunch.

Tempus Alba Pleno 2009  £26 (£24.70) Mendoza, Argentina
I like my Malbecs in a blend and this 50% Malbec/30% Cab Sauv/20% Merlot treat is a wonderful mix of Bordeaux varieties. A fantastically complex and velvety wine with dark cherry, chocolate, coffee – absolutely made to go with that ribeye steak.
